Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Wisdom teeth are third molars that usually appear between the ages of 16 and 25 at the back of the mouth. Wisdom teeth can grow unnoticed until they start to cause issues in the mouth. They are commonly extracted when they affect those teeth – this is known as “impacted wisdom teeth” and would require minor oral surgery with wisdom teeth extraction treatment.

Our dentists may determine that you need a tooth extraction for any number of reasons. Some teeth are extracted because they are severely decayed; others may have advanced periodontal disease or have broken in a way that cannot be repaired. Other teeth may need removal because they are poorly positioned in the mouth (such as impacted teeth), or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.

Wisdom Teeth Extraction Procedure
Wisdom teeth are extracted either because they have already become impacted or because they are potentially problematic. The extraction of wisdom teeth can sometimes be a troublesome and painful procedure. It should only be performed by a dentist with proper training and experience like Drs. Fryar, Davidson and Burr of Total Dental Care of Lake Norman. Our dentists will recommend using local anesthesia, a mild sedative, or a general anesthesia in these instances.
